Hi, my name is James Murphy, and I will welcome working with you on your path to thrive, be that via counselling, coaching, or consulting.
My expertise in these three areas has come from a mix of formal learning and significant life experience in both my personal and professional world.
With over 40 years of working in corporate roles, my passion is the empowerment of individuals and teams. I continue to be engaged with life in a way that shares with others the practical insights and skills that I have learned both professionally and personally.
Above all, I am driven by deeply listening to you. Not just hearing – listening:
- In counselling, how do you want your personal life to be? What are your challenges?
- In coaching, what are your career, financial, or life goals? Are there roadblocks?

COUNSELLING
An analogy I have for a life well-lived is that it is like building a skyscraper. Firstly, foundations need to be firm. Having our personal world aligned with our authentic selves is analogous to a skyscraper’s firm foundations.
Qualified by the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors I am a member of the Australian Counselling Association, and work to their code of ethics and standards.
While my formal qualifications provide the necessary process and evidence backed therapeutic approaches, I also have significant life experience in the application of personal change.
There is only one person in your life who you spend 24/7 with – and of course that is you, and so what is it that is getting in the way of you having the perfect relationship with yourself? And from there, what is getting in the way of the relationships you have with

COACHING
There is an old saying “you know what you know, and that is all that you know”, and another that at times we “cannot see the wood for the trees.” Whether the focus is your personal or business life, at times it is useful to get into the proverbial helicopter and take in the big picture, before coming back to the detail of the current day, week, or month.
My study of neuro-semantics at “The Coaching Room” within the campus of Sydney University, has provided a formal appreciation of the theory of human behavior and its application to resolving challenges and setting/achieving goals. Further, working in multi-cultural environments with people in many countries, I have learned first-hand how valuable these techniques are.

CONSULTING
Technology-driven business change consulting in the airline/airport space has been a key focus of my formal career. Airports and airlines are demanding and capital- intensive businesses, and so technology is key to ensure the operation runs efficiently and capital investments are optimised.
In my exposure to other businesses, similar dynamics are apparent:
-Ensuring “business programs” rather than “technology projects”.
-Prove by doing – implementing change whilst the goal posts do move.
-People – the right people empowered and enabled through leadership.
Technology has been changing the business world for many decades now. Capabilities such as Artificial Intelligence continue this advancement.
However, no matter what the technology or line of business the three dot points above tend to prevail, and this is the business space I enjoy.
